Neuromuscular Dentistry
Dr. Amy Norman has extensive post-graduate training and years of experience with Neuromuscular Dentistry. Neuromuscular dentistry focuses on the healthy relationship among the teeth, jaw joints, head, and neck muscles. The occlusion (alignment of the teeth of the upper and lower jaws when brought together) is the foundation of dentistry. It is of key importance in the success of every major dental procedure.
Occlusion is affected by three factors: teeth, muscles, and jaw joints. Achieving or restoring healthy relationship between the teeth, muscles, and joints can improve function, relieve pain, and enhance appearance. When these three factors are not in harmony, the result is TMJ or tempromandibular joint disorder. Neuromuscular dentistry treats temporomandibular joint disorder and the resulting variety of pain and ailments caused by this misalignment.
Because its symptoms can manifest itself in many areas of the body, not just the jaw, TMJ is often misdiagnosed and misunderstood except by doctors and dentists with specific knowledge tempromandibular joint disorder. In most cases, doctors simply prescribe pain medication because the pain does not related directly to the jaw. If you have pain in your jaw or neck, have chronic headaches or unexplainable numbness, ringing in the ears or persistent upper body pain, you should be tested for TMJ. And, if you have TMJ, you don’t have to continue to suffer. Dr. Amy Norman is an experienced neuromuscular dentist who can treat your TMJ symptoms and relieve your pain.
